Merck & Co (MSD Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd. India) gifts to IBAB

Institute of Bioinformatics & Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bangalore, has recently received a grant from Merck and Co, Inc., Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, USA (MSD Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd. India) to establish a Faculty Chair. The endowed chair includes funding to support a variety of research projects and activities. In addition the gift provides funding in the form of full need-based scholarships to three students. IBAB is shortly to move to its own facility in Bangalore Helix in Electronic City, and will utilize these funds to appoint a new faculty member. Prof. N. Yathindra, Director, IBAB said "We are extremely honoured and grateful that a large and reputed company like Merck & Co has gifted us a faculty chair and three scholarships. We are a young institution, and this kind of support will be very valuable as we build the institute." IBAB has been the recipient of chairs from AstraZeneca Research Foundation and from Biocon, and student scholarships from the Government of Karnataka, Millipore, Sartorius and Strand Life Sciences. In addition, it has received student medals for Sudha Murty of the Infosys Foundation.
