Prof. H.
Sharat Chandra, Chairman, Governing Body
Prof. Sharat Chandra is Director, Centre for Human Genetics, Emeritus
Professor, Indian Institute of Science and Honorary Professor at the
Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research. He obtained
his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. Subsequently, he
joined the Indian Institute of Science in 1975 as a Professor. Prof.
Sharat Chandra was also the Director of the Centre for Cellular and
Molecular Biology, Hyderabad from 1990-92. He has multiple publications
to his credit and has mentored many students and post-doctoral fellows.
Prof. Sharat Chandra is also a member of several high ranking
committees such as the National Bioethics Committee, Human Genetic Task
Force etc. In addition, he has been the editor of the Journal of
Genetics for over ten years. Prof. Sharat Chandra has been the
recipient of many honours and awards for his work.

Prof.
Pankaj. Chandra did his PhD at the Wharton School of the
University of Pennsylavania. After stints in Japan, the US and Canada,
he joined IIM-A where he became professor in 1997. In late 2007 he took
over as Director, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. His areas
of interest include supply chain coordination, manufacturing management
and management of technology in manufacturing. His current research
projects are on models and processes for organizing small producers,
building technological capabilities through strategic development of
electronics & IT clusters, technological change in the Indian auto
industry and models and algorithms for coordinating complex supply
chains. |

Shri Ashok Kumar C.Manoli, IAS,
Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Information
Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology.
Mr. Manoli was a 1st
Class Mechanical Engineering Graduate from Bangalore University. He
joined the IAS in 1982 and has held several positions of
responsibilities including Deputy Commissioner, Gulbarga, of Bijapur,
and of Bellary; Managing Director, KSTDC; Secretary (Expenditure) FD,
Commissioner for Commercial Taxes; Chairman, BWSSB; and Commissioner
for Textile Development & Director of Handlooms & Textiles.
In addition to his
official responsibilities, Mr. Manoli has a keen interest in dramatics
and has won several awards in this area.

Mr.
Aravind Jannu, Director-IT & BT, Government of Karnataka
Sri. Aravind Jannu, IAS is
currently MD, KEONICS and Director, IT & BT. Hailing from
Dharwar, he has studied ancient Indian history, archaeology and
epigraphy. Sri Jannu joined the Karnataka Administrative Service
in 1977. He has served in various positions such as Revenue,
Rural Development, District Administration & Law and Order, Zilla
Panchayats, Urban Development & Municipal Administration, Mines and
minerals, Sugar, Agriculture, Agricultural Credit, Sericulture and
Information & Publicity. He recently served as Secretary to
the Government in the Department of Forest, Ecology & Environment

Dr.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Founder and CMD, Biocon Group, Bangalore
Dr. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the Chairman and Managing Director of Biocon
Ltd. She has specialised in the technology of malting and brewing and
has the distinction of being India's first Lady Brewmaster. She set up
Biocon India Ltd. in 1978 as a joint venture with an Irish
multinational biotech company, Biocon Biochemicals Ltd. to manufacture
a range of speciality enzymes. Two more joint ventures with the
Unilever group resulted in Biochemizyme and Biocon Quest in 1990 and
1995 respectively. Ms. Mazumdar-Shaw also heads Syngene International,
a contract research organisation promoted to focus on drug discovery
and development and Clinigene International, a subsidiary which
specialises in bioinformatics to locate new disease biomarkers. She has
the distinction of heading several biotechnology task forces including
the Biotechnology Vision Group for the Government of Karnataka and the
National Biotechnology Committee of the Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII). Ms. Mazumdar-Shaw has several patents to her credit and
is the recipient of several awards, the most noteworthy being the
Padmashri award which was conferred upon her by the President of India
in 1989 and the Padmabhusan award in 2005.

Prof. M.
R. S. Rao President, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced
Scientific Research, Bangalore
Prof. M. R. S. Rao obtained his doctoral degree in Biochemistry from
the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1973. Subsequently he did
his postdoctoral work and served as Associate Professor at the Baylor
College of Medicine, at Houston, Texas. Since 1983 Prof. Rao has been a
Faculty with the Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of
Science and was also Chairman of the department from 1998-2003. Prof.
Rao has over 100 publications to his credit and is a recipient of
several awards and recognitions such as the S. S Bhatnagar Award for
Biological Sciences, INSA Research Fellowship, Rockefeller Foundation
and Biotechnology Felowship amongst others. He is a member of several
high ranking scientific panels and committees.

Dr.
Zeena Johar, President, ICTPH, Chennai
Dr. Zeena Johar obtained her PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH-Zurich, in NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), Molecular Modeling and Design, following her Masters in Chemistry with a specialization in Quantum Chemistry from Panjab University. To pursue her passion of translating basic science research towards populations-based applied research, Dr. Johar joined the IKP Trust in 2007. Dr. Johar is one of the founding members of ICTPH, a research institute working towards innovating sustainable, replicable and scalable healthcare delivery models for rural India. As president, Dr. Johar has played an important role in conceptualizing the strategic alignment of ICTPH with the overall mission of the IKP Trust. Dr. Johar is currently spearheading the ICTPH Tanjore Health Systems Pilot. |

Prof. S.
Sadagopan, Director, Indian Institute of Information
Technology, Bangalore
Prof. Sadagopan received his master's and doctoral degrees from Purdue
University, USA after which he returned to India to teach at the Indian
Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He has also taught at several
universities and institutes in India and abroad. He was a Fulbright
Scholar in 1995 and has been listed in Marquis's "Who's Who in the
World" and "Outstanding People of the Twentieth Century" published by
the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, UK. Prof. Sadagopan
serves on the editorial boards of several technical journals and is a
regular columnist for Economic Times, Computers Today, Dataquest, IT
Space.com etc. where he writes on several aspects of IT. Prof.
Sadagopan has also authored a book on Management Information systems,
published by Prentice Hall in 1995. He consults extensively to many
private and public sector companies in India on computing,
communications and software technologies.

Prof. M. Vijayan, Honorary Professor
& Distinguished Biotechnologist, IISc, Bangalore
Prof. M. Vijayan, a physicist by training, obtained his PhD in X-ray
crystallography from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in
1967. After his post-doctoral research at Oxford, UK he has been
associated with the Indian Institute of Science in various capacities
including as Associate Director of the institute till recently. With
nearly 200 scientific publications to his credit, Prof. Vijayan has
received several prestigious honours and awards, such as the Bhatnagar
Prize for Biological Sciences in 1985, the G. N. Ramachandran 60th
birthday commemoration medal from the Indian National Science Academy
in 1994, the Ranbaxy Research award in Basic Medical Sciences in 1996
and the K.S. Krishnan Memorial Lecture Award of the Indian National
Science Academy in 2001. Prof. Vijayan is a member of several prominent
international and national organisations such as the IUPAB task force
on Bioinformatics, Inter-Union Bioinformatics Group, Asia-Pacific
International Molecular Biology Network etc.

Prof. K. VijayRaghavan, Director,
National Centre for Biological Sciences (TIFR), Bangalore
Prof. K. VijayRaghavan has worked extensively in the area of
developmental genetics. He graduated from IIT-Kanpur with a BTech and
MTech in chemical engineering and followed it up with a PhD at the Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. His post-doctoral research
was at the California Institute of Technology and he is currently the
Director of the Bangalore-based National Centre for Biological
Sciences, a part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR),
Mumbai.
