The unique dual specialization MSc degree programme incorporates genetic engineering, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, fermentation, and downstream processing omics, next gen sequencing, big data analysis and so on in the course of study.

Practical hands-on training in biotechnology (including PCR, micro-array, protein chemistry etc.) and bioinformatics (statistics, C, C++, PERL, JAVA, and R) brings the learning experience closer to industry practices. Courses are taught by excellent faculty from industry and academia. The coursework also includes a research project as part of the curriculum.

ELIGIBILITY
  1. The student is required to obtain at least 50% in his/her Bachelor’s programme overall. Bachelor’s degree in any branch of science/technology/medicine (with degrees such as BSc, BE, BTech, BPharm, MBBS, BDS and BVSc)
  2. The eligible subject areas are: Life sciences (zoology, botany, genetics, human biology, general life sciences, ecology, environmental biology), bioinformatics, biotechnology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, any branch of engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, agriculture, medicine, dentistry, horticulture, forestry and veterinary sciences.
  3. There is no age bar for applying.
  4. Applicants who have had a break in their education or have been working for a few years are also eligible.
  5. Indian nationals, NRIs and foreign nationals who have passed the qualifying degree examination outside of India, must submit the Equivalence Certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities along with their application.
SYLLABUS

The entrance test to the MSc in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics (2020 – 2022) at IBAB will be for two hours, and will have 120 questions overall.
Here is the syllabus for the test. The questions will come come from the following broad areas.

  1. Section I: General Aptitude (20 Questions/ 20 Marks)
    This section will be comprised of 4 broad areas – Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, General Awareness and Current Affairs.
  2. Section II: Physics (20 Questions/ 20 Marks)
    This section will be comprised of 4 core areas i.e. Atoms and Nuclei, Current Electricity, Electromagnetism, and Thermodynamics. In addition, the other areas that will be covered are Electrostatics, Magnetism, Mechanics and Optics.
  3. Section III: Chemistry (20 Questions/ 20 Marks)
    This section will be comprised of 4 core areas i.e. Chemical Equilibria, Electrochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Solutions. In addition, the other areas that will be covered are Chemical Kinetics, Biomolecules, Basics of Organic Chemistry and s-p-d block elements.
  4. Section IV is Mathematics. (20 Questions/ 20 Marks)
    This section will be comprised of 4 core areas i.e. Linear Algebra, Probability, Statistics and Co-ordinate Geometry. In addition, the other areas that will be covered are Arithmetic, Basic Trigonometry, Geometric Progression-Arithmetic Progression and Permutation-Combination.
  5. Section V is Life Science. (40 Questions/ 40 Marks)
    This section will comprise of 8 core areas i.e. Anatomy, Physiology and Development of Plants and Animals, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Tools and Techniques in Biology.

After the Personal Interview, selected candidates will should confirm their admission by paying a non-refundable deposit of Rs. 20,000/- as the admission fees. On joining IBAB, this amount will be adjusted towards the semester fee.

IBAB admissions update: The entrance exam to IBAB’s MSc programme is scheduled for 24 May 2020. We expect this to be held as scheduled.
