SHORT TERM COURSES
Introduction
IBAB conducts different types of short term courses (STCs), mainly in the field of bioinformatics and biotechnology. These STCs are conceived to address and fulfill certain requirements of students, employees as well as the academic and industrial organizations. In fact, specialized courses are often formulated to match the specific objectives of different organizations.
Please write to us if you have any specific interests and queries. Examples of custom-designed as well as regular STCs conducted by IBAB are listed below.
1. An introductory course in biotechnology and bioinformatics was conducted from 14th to 16th November 2002 for executives of the Bangalore-based software company, Infosys. The course introduced the participants to basic concepts in biology and served as a primer to bioinformatics and biotechnology.
2. A 60 hour cell biology course was conducted for the executive engineers of the WIPRO-GE medical systems. The course sessions were held at IBAB for half a day every week between August and November 2003. The course involved explaining cell and molecular biology to engineers from non-biological background.
3. Laboratory course in recombinant DNA technology:
This is an introductory level laboratory course of about one to 3 weeks in recombinant DNA technology. The first course was conducted from 6th to 9th October 2003. The participants were life science post graduate-students.
4. Two-day awareness course in biotechnology and bioinformatics: This course is designed for those who desire a broad understanding of biotechnology and bioinformatics in a limited time span. Participants could be potential investors, engineers, managers, teachers, doctors, etc. The course is designed to impart complex concepts lucidly. Several participants with limited or no biological/science education have been benefited by this program. The course is organized one or more times a year depending on demand.
5.We also select students with outstanding academic records for 4 month or longer research internship/summer projects. Selections have been made via written tests in Delhi and Bangalore recently. Currently no positions are available.
