Faculty positions in Genomics
IBAB seeks to appoint a faculty in the area of genomics at its Bio-IT center. Ideally the candidate should have a good computing background and be well versed in the analysis of diverse set of genomic data. The candidates should have strong research programs in quantitative genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics or genome informatics. He/she will work with diverse genomic data sets from next-generation sequencing, and microarrays with a focus on human diseases such as cancer, obesity, diabetes, metabolic and immune disorders etc. and play a critical role in the development of personalized and predictive medicine in these disease areas. The selected candidate will also provide training and service to the users of the NGS facility at the Bio-IT center in genomic data analysis. The position is funded by a core research grant from the Government of Karnataka.
Primary responsibilities include (i) developing strong, extramurally funded and collaborative research programs in genomics/genome informatics (ii) Conducting/supporting training programs and workshops for students, researchers in genomic data analysis (iii) Providing service to the users and customers of the NGS facility in data analysis (iv) Teaching relevant subjects in the educational programs of IBAB (v) Sharing the responsibility of institutional activities along with other faculty members.
- Ph.D. in a relevant scientific area
- Minimum 3 years of appropriate post-doctoral/industrial experience
- Strong publication record in disciplines related to the position
- Experienced in scripting and implementation of algorithms in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java, R.
- Good experience in the use of NGS analysis tools
- Experience in UNIX/LINUX computing systems and relational databases
- Potential to initiate and sustain strong externally funded research programs
- Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences
- Evidence of commitment to teaching and training
Remuneration will be commensurate with expertise and experience

About Bio-IT Centre:
The Bio-IT research and training centre (Bio-IT Centre) was established at IBAB in 2010 under a public-private partnership with grant-in-aid from the DeitY, Government of India and the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka. IBAB has recently taken full charge of the Bio-IT Centre and its operations. The Centre has a state-of-art facility for NGS with the high throughput sequencer Hi Seq 2500, Hi-Scan (illumine bead-array) for genotyping and Ion-torrent for NGS and Qubit, C-bot, Covaris, Bio-analyzer and Tape-station for the processing of DNA and RNA samples.
