Call for Applications for Admissions to the Ph.D. Program
The Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru, is an autonomous institution registered as a Society. It was established in 2001 by the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka as a follow-up of the recommendation of the Vision Group on Biotechnology. IBAB’s mission is to catalyze the growth of the biotechnology and bioinformatics industries in India. It is a unique institute engaged in education, research and entrepreneur support programs and has been a tremendous success on several fronts. The institute has a novel Master’s degree program with dual specialization in bioinformatics and applied biotechnology, and an interdisciplinary PhD program. The institute has strong research programs in various disciplines as evidenced by the publication record of the faculty. It has excellent infrastructure, including a Bio-IT Centre equipped with a state-of-the-art sequencing facility and computing platforms, and an environment suitable for cutting edge research.
IBAB offers a PhD programme in interdisciplinary areas of life sciences/ bioinformatics/ computational biology with affiliation from Manipal University, Karnataka. The institute invites applications from highly motivated research aspirants for admission to the fulltime PhD programme in the following broad areas of research:
- Genomics and Transcriptomics – Next Generation Sequencing and Data Analysis: Plant, Microbial and Clinical Genomics/ Ayurgenomics/ Comparative Genomics
- Cancer Epigenetics
- Stem Cell Biology
- Synthetic Biology
- Disease Biology
- Mathematical and Network Modelling/Systems Biology
- Structural Biology and Drug Discovery
- Algorithm Development for Genomics and Bioinformatics Applications
Eligibility: A Master’s degree in any branch of Science or Medicine/ Dental Sciences/ Engineering/ Technology/ Agriculture/ Veterinary Science/ Pharmacy or Pharm. D./ Pharm. D.(Post Baccalaureate). Candidates who have qualified the Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF, UGC NET for JRF, ICMR JRF GATE, DBT-JRF, DST-Inspire, DBT-BINC or any other fellowship programme are strongly encouraged to apply.
Selection Procedure: An entrance examination (for candidates who have not qualified in any of the above entrance examinations) followed by a personal interview at IBAB, Bangalore for short-listed candidates.
Fellowships: A limited number of IBAB fellowships are available for outstanding candidates based on their performance in the interview.
