Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru invites applications for research positions leading to a PhD degree in the following research projects:

  1. Ab initio characterization of excitonic site energies, site-site and protein-site couplings in photosynthetic light harvesting complexes using fragment operator methods
  2. Estimating the free energy contribution of NCIs in secondary structures of proteins
  3. Photoprotection and weak noncovalent interaction networks in crystallins

For the above-mentioned projects (1-3): The student will be trained in electronic structure methods, vibronic spectroscopy, mixed quantum-classical dynamics, biomolecular structure, weak interactions and fragment based methods. Candidate must have had mathematics up to 12th standard and some prior programming experience. For informal queries regarding these projects, please reach out to Dr. Jayashree Nagesh (https://www.ibab.ac.in/people/faculty-members/dr-jayashree-nagesh/ )

4. Application of graph algorithms and information theory for bioinformatics analysis
5. Modelling the epigenetic and immunological processes using AI/ML
6. Development of a AI/ML based model for RoP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) prediction using retinal images

For the above-mentioned projects (4-6): Experience in Machine Learning (Reinforcement Learning) algorithms, Deep Learning, Python/ R programming, Linux scripting is a must. Knowledge of Bioinformatics tools, such as Gromacs, Pymol and other utilities are desirable. Candidate must have had mathematics up to 12th standard and some prior programming experience. For informal queries regarding these projects, please reach out to Dr. Nithya Ramakrishnan (https://www.ibab.ac.in/people/faculty-members/dr-nithya-ramakrishnan/ )

7. Exploring new modes of epigenetic and post-transcriptional gene regulation in malaria parasites by integrating multi-omics datasets and CRISPR/CAS genome engineering technologies

For the above-mentioned projects (7): Student applying for this project should havetheir own fellowship from funding agencies such as CSIR/UGC/DST/DBT/ICMR etc., For informal queries, please reach out to Dr. Shruthi Vembar – https://www.ibab.ac.in/people/faculty-members/dr-shruthi-vembar/
