Faculty position in Quantitative biology

Faculty position in Quantitative biology

The institute is seeking to appoint a faculty member in the area of systems biology /mathematical biology/ computational biology. Preferably the candidate should have a good computing background (mathematics/statistics/physics/engineering etc.) and work experience in the area of modern biology, with a good publication track record. Examples of areas of work include systems biology, mathematical biology and network biology.

Responsibilities:

The candidate is expected to work independently, build a strong research team, and develop extramurally funded research programmes. The faculty member is also expected to teach in the educational programmes of the institute, including the masters’ degree programme and the big data biology programme. Further, the faculty will work with other colleagues and share institutional responsibilities.

Eligibility:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific area
  • Minimum 3 years of appropriate post-doctoral/industrial experience
  • Strong publication record in disciplines related to the position
  • Experienced in scripting and implementation of algorithms in programming languages, including C/C++, Python, Java, R etc.

Faculty positions in Genomics

IBAB seeks to appoint a faculty in the area of genomics at its Bio-IT center. Ideally the candidate should have a good computing background and be well versed in the analysis of diverse set of genomic data. The candidates should have strong research programs in quantitative genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics or genome informatics. He/she will work with diverse genomic data sets from next-generation sequencing, and microarrays with a focus on human diseases such as cancer, obesity, diabetes, metabolic and immune disorders etc. and play a critical role in the development of personalized and predictive medicine in these disease areas. The selected candidate will also provide training and service to the users of the NGS facility at the Bio-IT center in genomic data analysis. The position is funded by a core research grant from the Government of Karnataka.

Primary responsibilities include (i) developing strong, extramurally funded and collaborative research programs in genomics/genome informatics (ii) Conducting/supporting training programs and workshops for students, researchers in genomic data analysis (iii) Providing service to the users and customers of the NGS facility in data analysis (iv) Teaching relevant subjects in the educational programs of IBAB (v) Sharing the responsibility of institutional activities along with other faculty members.

About Bio-IT Centre:

The Bio-IT research and training centre (Bio-IT Centre) was established at IBAB in 2010 under a public-private partnership with grant-in-aid from the DeitY, Government of India and the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka. IBAB has recently taken full charge of the Bio-IT Centre and its operations. The Centre has a state-of-art facility for NGS with the high throughput sequencer Hi Seq 2500, Hi-Scan (illumine bead-array) for genotyping and Ion-torrent for NGS and Qubit, C-bot, Covaris, Bio-analyzer and Tape-station for the processing of DNA and RNA samples.

Positions open for the post of Research Associate

Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate in the Synthetic Biology group at IBAB, Bengaluru. The successful candidate will participate in collaborative research projects in the area of protein engineering/enzyme discovery/cheminformatics/structural bioinformatics. Experience in enzyme discovery and metabolic pathway engineering will be an added advantage. The position is available initially for a period of 18 months and is extendable by further two years.

Essential Qualifications, Experiences and Skills:

  1. PhD degree or in Life Sciences/Biochemistry/Structural Biology or related subjects from a recognized university with a good academic record. Candidates with Masters degree and at least 2 years of industry experience in the above-mentioned areas are also eligible to apply for a project assistant post.
  2. Good programming skills and competent in data analyses with evidences in terms of publications or web hosted tools.
  3. Experience in working in a research laboratory or facility.
  4. Good organisational and prioritisation skills, ability to maintain accurate records.
  5. Team player and willingness to learn.

Desirable Experiences and Skills:
