Faculty Position in Computational Biology/Genomics at IBAB
IBAB seeks to appoint a faculty in the area of Computational Biology with a strong focus on Genomics and analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data using Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) for its innovative Masters Programme in Big Data Biology
The applicant should have an inclination to develop a research programme in the areas mentioned above with a strong focus on analyzing genomic, imaging and clinical data and to develop algorithms and tools for the analysis of such data.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include
- Teaching various courses in the new M.Sc. programme in Big Data Biology including Data Structures and Algorithms, Machine Learning (ML), Computer Programming in Python, JAVA, etc., application of AI and ML techniques to biological and clinical data analysis, genomics, and NGS data analysis.
- Developing strong, extramurally funded and collaborative research programmes in computational biology, genomics, imaging and AI/ML for biological, and clinical data.
- Supporting institutional research and academic programmes, and participating actively in institutional activities
Eligibility
- Ph.D. in Computational Biology
- Strong publication track-record relevant to biological data analysis
- Strong experience in the analysis of NGS data including application of AI/ML
- Experience in scripting and implementation of algorithms in programming languages including Python, Java, R, etc. and the applications of AI and ML for analyzing biological and clinical data
- Minimum of two years of post-doctoral/ industrial experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences
- Evidence of commitment to teaching and training
Remuneration: Remuneration will be commensurate with expertise and experience

Research position in Dr.Nithya Ramakrishnan’s group at IBAB
Applications are invited for Junior Research Fellow (JRF)/Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in the Computational Biology group of Dr.Nithya Ramakrishnan at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru. The project involves modelling the epigenetic and immunological processes using Machine Learning. The positions will be offered initially for 6 months and extended based on performance and satisfactory progress until project funding is available. Hostel facility within the campus is available.
Essential Qualifications, Experiences and Skills:
Master’s degree (M.Sc. OR equivalent) in Mathematics/Physics or related subjects with at least 65% of marks or 6.50 CGPA from a recognized university.

Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position in Synthetic Biology group at IBAB
Applications are invited from motivated students for the position of Junior Research Fellow in a DST-SERB funded project in the research group of Dr. Sanjay Ghosh at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru. The successful candidate will work on CRISPR-based identification and functional analyses of dengue virus host factors in human cells. Suitable candidates will be admitted to IBAB PhD program. The position is available for a period of three years. The selected candidate will be provided accommodation in IBAB hostel.
Qualifications, Experiences and Skills:
- Master’s degree (M.Sc. OR equivalent) in Life Sciences/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Biotechnology/ Zoology/ Genetics or related subjects with at least 60% of marks or 6.50 CGPA from a recognized university. Candidates having own fellowship or qualified any national level examination (GATE/NET/BET/etc.) will be preferred.
- Experience in virus-based assays, basic molecular biology techniques including cloning methods, microscopy and FACS analyses.
- Experience of working in a cell culture facility, excellent hands-on skills in culturing and maintenance of cell lines, transfection procedures and cell-based assays.
- Ability to maintain accurate lab records and data analyses, good organisational and prioritisation skills, team player and willingness to learn.
Remuneration:
As per DST norms. The fellowship will be extended following an annual review of the work and satisfactory progress.
