Faculty Position in Computational Biology/Data Science at IBAB
IBAB seeks to appoint a faculty in the area of Computational Biology with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and Quantitative Genomics for its innovative Masters Programme in Big Data (in) Biology
The applicant should have an inclination to develop research programme in the areas mentioned above with a strong focus on analysing genomic, imaging and clinical data and to develop algorithms and tools for the analysis of such data.
Primary responsibilities include
- Teaching various courses in the new M.Sc. programme in Big Data in Biology including Computer Programming in Python, JAVA, etc., application of AI and ML techniques to biological and clinical data analysis
- Developing strong, extramurally funded and collaborative research programmes in computational biology, genomics, imaging and in AI and machine learning for biological and clinical data
- Active involvement in institutional activities
- Ph.D. in Computational Biology/Genomics/Data Science/Computer Science
- Strong publication record in disciplines related to the position
- Experience in scripting and implementation of algorithms in programming languages including Python, Java, R, etc. and the applications of AI and ML for analysing biological and clinical data
- Experience in the analysis of data from Next Generation Sequencing experiments
- Relevant post doctoral/ industrial experience would be an added advantage
- Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences

Applications are invited for research positions [Project Assistant (PA)/Junior Research Fellow (JRF)/Postdoctoral fellow (PDF)] in the Synthetic Biology group at Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru. Projects are available in the following areas:
1) Functional genomics of host-virus interactions using CRISPR technology
2) Metabolic engineering and Flux analyses in cyanobacteria

The positions will be offered initially for 6 months and extended based on performance and satisfactory progress until project funding is available. Meritorious candidates may be considered for PhD program based on suitability. Hostel facility within the campus is available.
Essential Qualifications, Experiences and Skills:
B.E/B.Tech or Master’s degree (M.Sc. OR equivalent) in Life Sciences/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Biotechnology/ Zoology/ Genetics/Bioinformatics or related subjects with at least 65% of marks or 6.50 CGPA from a recognized university.
Junior Research Fellow:

Applications are invited for the position of Curator at the Anti-Venom Research and Development Centre (AVRDC)to be established at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru. This is a collaborative project between the Evolutionary Venomics Lab (IISc) and the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied (IBAB) funded by Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), Government of Karnataka. The curator will be responsible for supporting the establishment and overall management of the centre including liaising with appropriate authorities for approvals and permissions, preparing and implementing future activities of the centre as well as training manpower in handling venomous snakes. The position will be offered initially for 6 months and extended based on performance and satisfactory progress until the project funding is available.
Duration of the Project: 5 years
Essential Qualifications, Experiences and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any subject from a recognized university.

Anti-Venom Research and Development Centre (AVRDC) is being established on the campus of IBAB in Bengaluru Helix Biotech Park as a collaborative initiative between the Evolutionary Venomics Lab, Centre for Ecological Sciences (CES), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and IBAB with funding from the Government of Karnataka. The centre will have a state-of-art serpentarium which will house various species of snakes and other venomous animals from India and around the world in their natural habitats with a mandate to develop highly efficacious next generation antivenom therapy using latest technological platforms. The other broader objectives of AVRDC includes quality assessment of venom for the manufacture of lifesaving antivenoms, efficacy testing of commercial Indian antivenoms, resource development for antivenom strategies, snake venom-related wildlife forensics, snakebite education, biotechnological innovations and supporting entrepreneurship in this area..
