Applications are invited from motivated candidates for the Project Assistant position(s) in the Bio-IT Centre at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru. The successful candidate will work on next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis and comparative omics projects focused on plant, human, mosquito, microbial, parasitic and other disease-relevant organisms. They will also act as a demonstrator in NGS workshops conducted by the Bio-IT Centre. Motivated candidates will be encouraged to conduct research with IBAB faculty members on diverse projects related to data mining, genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, network analysis, website & database development, and mathematical modelling.

The position will be offered initially for 6 months and based on performance and satisfactory progress, it can be extended until project funding is available. Meritorious and enthusiastic candidates may be considered for the IBAB-PhD program based on their willingness, suitability, and eligibility.Selected candidates may also avail on-campus hostel accommodation.

Essential Qualifications:

B.E./B.Tech or Master’s degree (M.Sc. OR equivalent) in Bioinformatics/ Computational Biology/ Biotechnology/ Information Sciences or related subjects with at least 60% of marks or 6.50 CGPA from a recognized university.

Essential skills required for all applicants:

  1. Basic microbiology/ molecular biology/ bioinformatics-related skills.
  2. Prior knowledge and hands-on experience in handling computational tools for data analyses, OR, NGS data including DNA-seq, RNA-seq, and ChIP-seq pipelines, OR, other bioinformatics tools.
  3. Enthusiasm and willingness to learn programming languages. Preference will be given to candidates who already know languages such as Perl, Python, R, etc.
  4. Excellent communication skills.
  5. Good organizational and time management skills, including the ability to maintain detailed records.

Desirable Experiences and Skills:

  1. Students with a research fellowship from any central/state government agencies such as CSIR, UGC, DBT, or ICMR would be preferred.

About the Bio-IT Centre:

The Bio-IT Centre at IBAB is a state-of-art facility for next-generation sequencing, capillary electrophoresis-based sequencing, and microarray imaging.
