Advertisement for Curator Position at
Anti-Venom Research and Development Centre,
IBAB, Bengaluru

Applications are invited for the position of Curator at the Anti-Venom Research and Development Centre (AVRDC)to be established at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru. This is a collaborative project between the Evolutionary Venomics Lab (IISc) and the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied (IBAB) funded by Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), Government of Karnataka. The curator will be responsible for supporting the establishment and overall management of the centre including liaising with appropriate authorities for approvals and permissions, preparing and implementing future activities of the centre as well as training manpower in handling venomous snakes. The position will be offered initially for 6 months and extended based on performance and satisfactory progress until the project funding is available.

Duration of the Project: 5 years

Essential Qualifications, Experiences and Skills:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any subject from a recognized university.
  2. Excellent hands-on skills and experience in handling snakes, husbandry and breeding of reptiles, comfortable with and passionate about animals.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organisational skills, motivated, meticulous, hardworking, team player and eager to learn.

Desirable Experiences and Skills:

  1. Ability to effectively organize and communicate with multiple audiences.
  2. Excellent project management and organizational skills
  3. Leadership skills
  4. Ability to work independently as well train others.

Anti-Venom Research and Development Centre (AVRDC) is being established on the campus of IBAB in Bengaluru Helix Biotech Park as a collaborative initiative between the Evolutionary Venomics Lab, Centre for Ecological Sciences (CES), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and IBAB with funding from the Government of Karnataka. The centre will have a state-of-art serpentarium which will house various species of snakes and other venomous animals from India and around the world in their natural habitats with a mandate to develop highly efficacious next generation antivenom therapy using latest technological platforms. The other broader objectives of AVRDC includes quality assessment of venom for the manufacture of lifesaving antivenoms, efficacy testing of commercial Indian antivenoms, resource development for antivenom strategies, snake venom-related wildlife forensics, snakebite education, biotechnological innovations and supporting entrepreneurship in this area..
