Faculty Scientist, Epigenetics and Image Informatics
Vijayalakshmi Mahadevan completed her Ph.D. from the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS-TIFR). She was a faculty at SASTRA University in the School of Electrical & Electronics Engineering and at the School of Chemical & Biotechnology till January 2016.
Her research is focused on understanding epigenetic signalling in disease and during apoptosis. Her laboratory uses next generation sequencing approaches, live cell imaging and high throughput microscopy to dissect the role of chromatin modifications during the onset of diseases and their progression. The group also employs a range of bioinformatics approaches, molecular simulations, image informatics, and pathway mapping strategies to understand chromatin dynamics and signalling. Her group actively collaborates with tumor pathology departments in Germany and with simulation groups in the US to address the different dimensions controlling chromatin dynamics.
