Dr Mitali Bhattacharjee

Dr Mitali Bhattacharjee did her MSc in Biochemistry and also obtained a PG Diploma in Cheminformatics. She then did her PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the Institute of Bioinformatics, Bangalore under the guidance of Prof Akhilesh Pandey, of the Proteomics Department, Mayo Clinic, in the US. In her PhD work, using Integrated Omics technology of Microarray and LTQ Orbitrap Velos Mass Spectrometry, she successfully identified a list of novel gene and protein biomarkers from synovial fluid samples of rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthropathy patients. She also participated in MS-based protein profiling of diseases like cancers, osteoarthritis, diabetic retinopathy and stroke. She carried out extensive pioneering research on SFMC isolation and downstream processing for Microarray, O-18 labeling and iTRAQ labeling based MS quantification of synovial fluid flycoproteins and others. From her work she understood the direct correlation of rheumatoid arthritis with cardiovascular manifestations. To take this work forward, she joined Prof. Bibha Chaudhary’s lab at IBAB as a DST funded Woman Scientist Fellow to characterize the cellular and molecular markers responsible for cardiovascular manifestations in RA patients.
