Introduction

Synthetic biology is an interdisciplinary field that combines principles from biology, engineering, computer science, mathematics, and chemistry to design and construct new biological parts, devices, and systems or to redesign existing biological systems for useful purposes. As one of the most dynamic and transformative areas of modern research, it holds the power to redefine how we approach healthcare, agriculture, energy, and environmental sustainability.

Relevance to IBAB’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations

The Government of Karnataka provided funding to IBAB in 2016 to generate tools and technologies for translational research, and to create manpower skilled in synthetic biology through education and training programs. Since then, IBAB has established state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with specialized high-end instruments, initiated several academic and industry collaborations, organized workshops, and trained students in synthetic biology research projects. As IBAB celebrates its silver jubilee, through this mini-symposium on Synthetic Biology, we aim to expose young researchers and students to cutting-edge research, emerging technologies, and interdisciplinary approaches in synthetic biology and offer opportunities to learn from leading experts in the field.
