Introduction
Genome editing has emerged as one of the most transformative advances in modern life sciences, enabling precise and targeted manipulation of genetic material across diverse organisms. Technologies such as CRISPR–Cas systems have not only accelerated basic biological discovery but have also opened new avenues in therapeutics, agriculture,
synthetic biology, and biotechnology innovation. As genome editing tools continue to evolve in accuracy, efficiency, and scope, they are reshaping how complex biological questions are addressed and how solutions to real-world challenges are developed.
The Research Minisymposium on Advancing Genome Editing aims to provide a focused platform for discussing recent conceptual, technological, and translational advances in this rapidly progressing field. Through keynote and invited talks by leading scientists, student poster presentations, and interactive discussions, the symposium will highlight cutting-edge research spanning tool development, functional genomics, genome engineering applications, and computational and experimental strategies supporting genome editing. A dedicated panel discussion on ethical dimensions will further encourage thoughtful engagement with the societal and regulatory implications of rewriting genetic information.
Relevance to IBAB’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations
As IBAB marks 25 years of excellence in bioinformatics, biotechnology, and interdisciplinary research, this minisymposium reflects the institute’s enduring commitment to frontier science and responsible innovation. Since its inception, IBAB has played a pioneering role in integrating computation, molecular biology, and systems-level
thinking to address complex biological problems. Genome editing represents a natural extension of this vision, sitting at the intersection of experimental biology, data analysis, and translational impact.
By hosting this minisymposium during its Silver Jubilee year, IBAB not only celebrates its past contributions but also looks ahead to emerging scientific frontiers that will define the next decades of biological research. The event underscores IBAB’s focus on nurturing young researchers, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, and engaging critically with ethical and societal considerations. In doing so, the symposium aligns with IBAB’s broader mission of advancing impactful research, training future scientific leaders, and contributing meaningfully to science and society in India and beyond.
