Hands-on Online Workshop on “Fundamentals of NGS analysis and Drug Discovery”
26-30 May 2022
The Bio-IT Centre at IBAB is organizing a four-day online workshop on “Fundamentals of NGS analysis and Drug Discovery” from 26-30 May 2022. This workshop will cover basic concepts in genomics such as analyzing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data, mining and analyzing genome and protein sequences, and performing structural analysis leading to drug discovery. We will also provide hands-on training in programming (UNIX and R) to perform these analyses. Additionally, participants will be introduced to NGS analysis and drug discovery pipelines and their implementation, which they could independently apply to their project(s) of choice. The overall goal of the workshop
is to give biologists a working knowledge of bioinformatics techniques that are integral to modern biology.
The course is aimed at students, researchers, and technicians who wish to employ bioinformatics approaches in their work but may not have sufficient training in/awareness of bioinformatics. Ph.D. scholars/ postdoctoral fellows/ JRFs/ faculty involved in pure experimental biological research are encouraged to apply. The course will also be beneficial to those pursuing M.Sc./ M.Tech. in Biotechnology/ Life Sciences/ Microbiology/ Biosciences who may be interested in transitioning to bioinformatics-focused opportunities in academia or industry. Teachers from undergraduate and postgraduate teaching institutions and research institutes across Karnataka are also encouraged to apply. Please note that minimal eligibility is pursuing a Master’s degree.
Thirty-five candidates will be selected for this workshop on a first-come basis.
Registration Fee (inclusive of GST): These fees are only for those working in India. If you are working abroad, please email email@example.com for payment details.
|Masters students||INR 3,000|
|Research students (PA, Ph.D., etc.) and Technicians||INR 5,000|
|Postdoctoral fellows, Faculty, and Lecturers||INR 8,000|
|Industrial applicants||INR 12,000|
1) Registration fees must be paid as per the candidate’s qualification. If the education details and amount paid by any candidate are not matching, the registration will stand cancelled and there will be no refund provided.
2) Bachelor’s Students will be able to register, but they will not be able to pay. If vacancies are
available in the end, they will be contacted separately.
Interested participants should register for this workshop by filling up this google form. You will be asked to upload your resume, along with a recent photo and a write-up (minimum 100 words) on how this workshop will be helpful for your research and career development. Once Thirty-five seats are filled, the registration will be closed. The participants must submit the registration fees before registering themselves. The registration deadline is 20 May 2022.
You can register using this Google Form: https://forms.gle/vnG1HUay8V2oVvWG9
Lectures and hands-on training will be conducted virtually. Therefore, all participants must have access to a personal computer and a good internet connection.
About Bio-IT Centre:
The Bio-IT Research and Training Centre (Bio-IT Centre) was established at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) in 2010 with support from the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeITY), the Government of India, and the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka. Bio-IT Centre has a state-of-art sequencing facility with the high-throughput sequencer HiSeq 2500 and several accessory equipments such as a Hi-Scan system for Illumina bead array and microarray-based imaging, Qubit, C-bot, Covaris, Bio-analyzer and Agilent 2200 Tape-station for the processing of DNA and RNA samples, Stratagene Mx 3000 for Real-Time PCR, and 3500 Dx Genetic Analyzer for capillary electrophoresis based sequencing. Bio-IT Centre provides sequencing and analysis services in either collaborative or service mode. The Centre also regularly organizes introductory and advanced bioinformatics and NGS analysis workshops.
